What a high octane derby day it was..!! the only match you want to win at any cost to have the bragging rights when the entire city is divided into red and blue half of supporters. It means so much to the fans and the players know it very well. Manchester United humbled Man City 4-2 with an extra ordinary attacking football like never seen before in past 2 years. It reminded everyone of the deadly Red devils under the great management of Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Manchester derby

Be it derby day or not. It’s always important for me as a fan to go the same routine rituals on a Match-day. I’m not superstitious when it comes to real life but its completely different scenario when it comes to watch Manchester United play. I have done some very crazy things that my people won’t even believe it.

With 7 games to go before kickoff, it was important that ManUtd get 3pts and secure their place in top 4 positions of  the premiership table . Personally I went into this match with high confidence as the red devils were performing on high level in premier league since last week of February, 2015. But in the derby at Old Trafford for past 4 years, only ManCity had the bragging rights. We had to do something to turn the tide in our favour before it gets out of control and becomes a one sided affair for the next seasons to come. And boy..!! didn’t our lads do well.. the possession attacking football at its best. The fans were magnificently loud, probably the loudest i have heard them this season.

Red Devils

ManUtd defence were upto the task by tackling and man marking the opposition who attacked with high intensity in the opening five minutes of the match. ManCity drew first blood by scoring the opening goal with James Milner feeding the little run of David Silva inside the left hand side who in turn assisted by squaring the ball to their top striker Sergio Aguero who had just to tap in. 1-0 down in 7mins and the chase began like the same old story for the past four years. But for the first time in two seasons and with an unchanged side for past 4 matches, I believed that we had the team to comeback with recent top match performance.

Goals from Ashley Young and Maroune Felliani got the derby match going and maintained the high drama as ManUtd responded in space of twenty minutes. A cross from David de gea to clear the ball fell in the right spot for Herrera who from the lft side squared the ball for Ashley young to tap in.  Another game-play move saw Ashley young’s cross to the far corner for Felliani who power headed the ball into the back of the net despite ManCity’s goalie Joe Hart putting his body on the line. 2-1 lead restored at 30 mins and Old Trafford roof liftoff..

Chris Smalling

The possession attacking football of Red Devils continued into second half as the goals at StretFord End of Juan Mata and Chris Smalling joined the party in the rains of Manchester, gifting Old Trafford fans the resounding three goal cushion lead. Daley Blind’s pass to Wayne Rooney in the centre, who had a great vision to feed the ball to Juan Mata left hand side run in the box. Suddenly with one on one with keeper, Mata held his nerve cool calm and collectively finished in the bottom corner between the legs of Joe Hart. Another Ashley young free kick delighted Chris Smalling who found ample space and scored his header. 1-0 down in the seventh minute and 4-1 up in the seventy third minute, that’s how you respond on derby day to your city rivals.

Wayne Rooney

Michael Carrick had to limp off  and with all the subs used up, Sergio Aguero scored another goal in consolation in dying minutes as ManCity pounced on the opportunity with the Red Devils being 10 man on the field making the scoreline to somewhat respectability of 4-2.

Three points in the bag and with three massive games for Chelsea against us, Arsenal and Liverpool, i feel the title race is still has the twist of tale to be said in coming weeks with six games to go.
